History

Preem Petroleum was formed in May 1996, when the industrial company OK Petroleum changed its name to Preem. Preem quickly became a familiar brand to the Swedish public, as 400 Texaco gas stations and 130 OK stations in southern and western Sweden were re-branded as Preem.

But the most significant cornerstone in Preem comprises the two refineries on the west coast: Preemraff Lysekil and Preemraff Göteborg, which make Preem the biggest oil company in Sweden.

The background to the name Preem and the “bear” symbol was our desire to present a company with a gentle, friendly side, which always focuses on the customer. We looked for a name and a symbol that reflected both our size and our professionalism.

The result was a smiling bear. And why not? Bears are big and strong. Smiling bears are also friendly and gentle.

The name Preem comes from the English word “pre-eminent.” So it’s perhaps not difficult to understand that our name is our biggest challenge.

We chose the green and orange colors because we wanted to have a strong presence out on the roads and differentiate ourselves from our competitors.
